He was working on a story about an area park when he stumbled upon something unusual. Rittenhouse had been interviewing a woman at a local nursing home who was being cared for by the elderly. He asked her why she had moved to the nursing home, and she replied that she needed help with running errands and making trips to the store. Rittenhouse returned for more interviews and learned that not only did she live alone, but she was also known as "the loneliest old lady in town." He eventually returned to his office to type up his report.
